ETI Donates Children’s Medical Gaming Cart to Worthing Hospital

Electronic Temperature Instruments (ETI) has continued its support of a local children’s ward with the donation of a medical gaming cart worth in excess of £2,000. The cart, supplied with 20 games, has been donated to Love Your Hospital, the dedicated NHS charity for St Richard’s, Worthing, and Southlands Hospitals, to help reduce anxiety and to create a homely environment for young patients.

ETI has supported the Love Your Hospital and the Bluefin Ward for over five years, raising vital funds each Christmas. In total, ETI staff have raised over £2,500 for the Ward thanks to fundraising initiatives held each year. Last Christmas, ETI donated 80 toys to Bluefin including Lego sets, art kits, electronic nursery rhyme books, a Lego table, and bricks for the communal playroom.

The Bluefin Children’s Ward specialises in providing care to babies, children and adolescents who have been admitted to the hospital, in an environment that is better suited to their needs. The ward is also supported by a specialist play team.

The gaming carts are made by TheRockinR, a small national charity which provides interactive medical gaming carts to sick children and young people in hospitals throughout the UK.

Jason Webb, managing director at ETI, comments: “Gaming is often overseen as a development tool. But it offers a range of benefits that can provide an opportunity to ‘escape reality’ for a while as well as helping to improve a child’s mood, promote relaxation, and reduce anxiety. ETI has enjoyed raising money for Love Your Hospital for many years and we were pleased to support their fundraising efforts once again. Each gaming cart helps healthcare professionals and play specialists to provide much-needed play and recreation to children and young people spending time in the hospital or visiting as an outpatient.”

Hayley Edwards, a hospital play assistant at Bluefin Ward, adds: “The gaming carts are a lifesaver for our patients as they provide distraction, reduce anxiety, and help them relax. Sometimes a home from home environment makes them settle quicker. Some of our patients are with us for months so the games are an added bonus to having iPlayer and Netflix which they can log into and watch. It’s a lovely comfort to them.”

Love Your Hospital provides vital funds to support hospital projects beyond core NHS funding at St Richard’s in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham. This includes providing state-of-the-art medical equipment, improving treatment facilities for patients, supporting staff development and enhancing the hospital environment for all.
