ETI Hosts MasterChef-Style Event For Year 10 Students

Electronic Temperature Instruments (ETI) has hosted a Masterchef-style cooking competition at a local school. The event was held at St. Andrew’s School in Worthing, West Sussex on Tuesday 17th May and inspired a new generation of young chefs.

Dan Cotton, chef and owner of Humble Plates and Wood X Coal, prepared a dish to the year 10 students before sitting on the judging panel along with staff from both ETI and the school. To add further inspiration to the students, Dan discussed why and how he became a chef and restaurant owner and how he overcame certain challenges.

He also provided all the ingredients, and each dish was judged based on temperature, food safety, presentation, and taste. Noah Walters won the competition followed by William Hipkin and Giancarlo Basabas in second, with Max Hussein and Logan Saunders in third. Each received a certificate, a Thermapen goody bag, and a £25 voucher to Level 1, a venue which brings together the best of Worthing and Sussex based leisure, food and drink businesses in one location.

ETI provided food safety posters for St. Andrew’s food technology classrooms and, as part of this long-term partnership, will offer tours of its sites and laboratories and work experience opportunities.

Jason Webb, ETI managing director, comments: “ETI is committed to working closely with its local communities and giving something back. As a former St. Andrew’s student myself, this event held much significance for me. I couldn’t wait to go back. Not only can this event inspire participants to pursue a culinary career, but it also informed, educated and increased awareness on food preparation, waste, safety, and provided them will valuable life skills.”

Dan Cotton said: “The best way to tap into the young culinary talent is to get amongst them, and the results achieved by the students on the day were exceptional. It was a very exciting and fulfilling day for us on the judging panel.”
